Cufflinks became a popular part of male fashion in the late 1700s. However, the modern cufflink that we all know today made it's appearance in the mid 19th century. Traditionally men would fasten their shirt cuffs together with ribbon, however, this over time was replaced by hat we know as the modern cufflink. As they became more popular, cufflinks became an acceptable form of male jewellery in many cases. In the mid 20th century, gentlemen would often adorn themselves with a range of accessories such as cigarette cases, money clips, fashionable cigarette lighters and of course cufflinks.
